Michigan Representative John Conyers Resigns Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations
The longest serving member of the House of Representatives has resigned after support among fellow Democrats eroded when allegations of sexual harassment were made public by several female employees.
Conyers announced his “retirement” in a bizarre, rambling interview with radio host Mildred Gaddis where he also endorsed his son John Conyers III.
Conyers seat will be filled by a special election.
Conyers, who is 88, has continually denied wrongdoing in the matter, but increasing pressure from Democractic leadership like Nancy Pelosi and James Clyburn have forced his retirement.
