For fans of Run The Jewels – this crossover is no surprise.  Run The Jewels is probably the hottest underground hip hop act going these days. Rick & Morty is one of the most popular shows of the last 5 years. Between that and their similar cynical take on modern life – it would seem like the new video for “Oh Mama” is a perfect match.

But, did you know that Adult Swim, Cartoon Network’s overnight programming block, played a central role in the formation of Run The Jewels?

#Facts

Rapper Killer Mike had started seeing a surge in popularity after working closely with T.I. and Grand Imprint. Around the same time indie rap super producer & MC, El-P, had just concluded work on his album Cancer For Cure and one of the songs “Drones Over BKLYN” made it to the Adult Swim Singles program.

Cartoon Network executive Jason DeMarco introduced the pair in 2011 and before too long El-P was working with Mike to conclude his latest album R.A.P. Music. With Cancer For Cure and R.A.P. Music coming out within weeks of each other the pair planned a joint tour. The success of the tour led to the formation of Run The Jewels in 2013.

And the rest, as they say, is history!
