According to Chicago’s Leak & Sons Funeral Home, Yvonne Staples of the Staples Singers has died at the age of 80.

Born in Chicago, Yvonne started performing with her sister Mavis and her brother Pervis in her uncle’s church in 1940.

Staples hits included, “Respect Yourself,” “I’ll Take You There” and “Heavy Makes You Happy”. The Staples Singers recorded over 30 albums with their greatest successes coming from album that were recorded with Staxx Records. In 2005 the group received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
