Eminem Celebrates 10 Years Of Sobriety, Elevates Philanthropic Causes
For those who have followed Eminem‘s career for many years, you know that one of Em’s past struggles was drugs and alcohol.
Eminem shared a photo of his recovery coin from Alcoholic’s Anonymous on his Instagram, saying that he’d just celebrated 10 years. According to E!, in 2005 he went to rehab for treatment, and in 2007 he relapsed and almost died from an accidental methadone overdose.
Back in 2011, he said this in the Survivor’s segment for GQ:
“The thing sobriety has taught me the most is the way I’m wired—why my thought process is so different… I’ve realized that the way I am helps with the music. Sporadic thoughts will pop into my head and I’ll have to go write something down, and the next thing you know I’ve written a whole song in an hour. But sometimes it sucks, and I wish I was wired like a regular person and could go have a f–kin’ drink.”
Friend and collaborator Royce 5′ 9″ commented on the photo on Twitter, saying “Happy sobriety birthday to my mentor @Eminem. Keep fighting the good fight homie … I love you for life ????????.”

XXL notes that T.I. once mentioned that Eminem helped him get passed his drug addiction as well.
In other news, it’s been shared by the journalists out at Coachella that Eminem also put out billboards coming into the Coachella area on sexual health, unity among races, and education. This sighting was reported by Jessica Golich from Tattoo.com:
