Starbucks Announces Plans to Help Transgender Employees Get Surgery - The Gello Show

The coffee chain Starbucks has announced plans to help all transgender employees be able to pay for comprehensive care.

Starbucks announced that it would actually be covering all steps involved in transitioning genders. This will also cover several other procedures previously considered "cosmetic" and typically are not covered by health insurance programs.

These procedures includes top surgery (breast augmentation or reduction), hair removal or hair transplants, as well as facial feminization surgery. Starbucks also says it will help find appropriate doctors and healthcare providers.

Ron Crawford, VP of benefits at Starbucks says:

The approach was driven not just by the company’s desire to provide truly inclusive coverage, and by powerful conversations with transgender partners about how those benefits would allow them to truly be who they are [...] You have to think of it from an equity perspective.”
