A review of Kanye’s interview with Jimmy Kimmel suggests that silence said a lot about Trump’s relationship with black Americans.
Kimmel reminded Kanye of his statement on live T.V. during Hurricane Katrina when Kanye said, “President Bush didn’t care about black people” and asked Kanye if he thought President Trump cared about black people, Kanye paused long enough for Kimmel to go to commercial.
When asked about his support of Trump and him wearing the “Make America Great Again” hat, West said, “…it represented overcoming fear and doing what you felt, no matter what anyone said, and saying, ‘You can’t bully me.’ Liberals can’t bully me, news can’t bully me, the hip-hop community, they can’t bully me.”
According to a Washington Post article, Kanye likely supported Trump because nobody felt like he should be supported, hence Kanye’s “go-against-the-grain” mentality.
What were your thoughts on Kanye’s support of President Trump after watching the Jimmy Kimmel interview? Do you think Kanye supported Trump because of him being the underdog at the time?
