Oprah's mother passed away at her home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Thanksgiving.

Born in 1954, Oprah spent her early years with her grandmother, Hattie Mae Lee, in Mississippi, before she went to live with her mom when she was 6.

The family has stated that private funeral services have been held and any memorial donations in her name should be made to Feeding America, a national non-profit organization than runs a network of dozens of food banks across the U.S.

Our condolences go out to the Winfrey family at this time.
