Even though it’s late, this is the best Christmas present anybody could have asked for.
MDOT says I-696 will be back to normal starting on January 7th. Originally scheduled to be finished in November, the $90 Million project has faced scrutiny to a changing deadline and a work stoppage that brought construction to a halt.
Changing the lanes back is a process, and MDOT workers anticipate starting the conversion on January 2nd, finishing by the 7th and allowing drivers to finally use the major throughway again.
This will complete the project where all 28 miles of the highway were under construction at one point throughout the spring, summer, and fall of this past year. Here’s a video of the highway being worked on from earlier in the year.
