Rapper 21 Savage Arrested by US Immigration
Earlier today, Grammy-nominated rapper 21 Savage was arrested by federal immigration enforcement.
21 Savage, whose legal name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested in a targeted operation in Atlanta, Georgia, which included local and federal law enforcement officers, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the Associated Press. 21 Savage is a convicted felon and a British citizen who overstayed his visa, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Bryan Cox.
The rapper’s lawyer, Dina LaPolt said that they are working assiduously to get 21 Savage out of detention while they work with ICE to clarify any confusion. She stated that 21 Savage is a “role model” to young people, especially in Atlanta.
The “A Lot” rapper is a two-time Grammy nominee for 2019’s Record of the Year and Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Rockstar” alongside Post Malone.
In 2005, 21 Savage entered the United States legally, but has continued to reside in America illegally since his visa expired in July 2006, according to Cox. In 2014, he was convicted on felony drug charges in Fulton County. The rapper is expected to be deported.
