The National Hockey League has announced that it will emphasize racial diversity in hockey during Black History Month. The league has announced that they will have a traveling museum devoted to the history of minorities in hockey. One of the museum’s highlights will be the career of Willie O’Ree, who broke the color barrier in 1958. O’Ree has worked as the league’s diversity ambassador since 1996. The NHL has twenty black players on teams and only recently started collecting data to study diversity in hockey. What do you think the NHL could do to encourage minorities to play or engage in hockey?
