In a game where there are so many rappers trying to steak their claim to the throne. There is only one in my mind who is wearing the crown these days.
J Cole is just as dangerous lyrically as anyone in the game today. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, right now he is the greatest rapper in the game.
It pains me because all time my favorite rapper is Eminem, who is arguably the G.O.A.T. … However J Cole when it is all said and done in my opinion, will surpass Em for that spot.
Last night J Cole was in London during Drakes concert at the O2 Arena. This video surfaced of them possibly collaborating on new music together.
So it really got me thinking. If J Cole thinks that Drake is top 5 in the game right now. Who else would be in that category?
My list as it sits. Top 5 in the game right now (Young Cats Only). Argue it.
- J Cole
- Kendrick Lamar
J Cole: Has proven himself to be a lyrical killer. His constant forward progression from album to album has garnered not only the respect of younger cats but some of the biggest names in hip-hop. From Jay-Z, to Nas & even Detroits own Royce Da 5’9.
Kendrick Lamar: Has an incredible work ethic & discography so far. Damn won a Pulitzer, and honestly should’ve won album of the year at the Grammy’s last year. In my mind he is in the middle of a marathon of a career with J Cole to be the G.O.A.T. … Those two really are the Yin to each others Yang.
Logic: Is really putting together a career where 6 albums in … You know that he is in a class of his own. His wittiness along with his rapid fire delivery on most songs gives him a tremendous amount of respect in the community. Plus every project he has dropped so far, they’ve all been met with critical acclaim. Something tough to do for a 29 year old.
Russ: Quietly is putting together a movement. He owns his own label. Produces his own beats, and writes all of his own material. He is someone I’d consider a dark horse in the rap game. If you haven’t checked him out. You need to ASAP.
Wale: “Ambition is priceless that’s something thats in your veins.” This statement is something he has stuck to his whole career. After a freshman album like Ambition he is one of the ones who’s kept his foot on the gas pedal. Not only with his work on his albums, but his mixtape game is straight fire.
