Tribeca Film Festival To Honor John Singleton By Screening ‘Boyz N The Hood’
The entertainment world is still shocked by the passing of iconic film director John Singleton.
Many in the film industry are still reflecting upon Singleton’s contributions to the art form. The Tribeca Film Festival wants to honor Singleton by screening one of his most influential films, Boyz N The Hood, which was Singleton’s directorial debut.
Yesterday (May 2), the festival took to Instagram to announce the special screening.”We’re hosting a free screening of the late John Singleton’s brilliant masterpiece, BOYZ N THE HOOD , tomorrow at #Tribeca2019.”
The screening of Boyz N The Hood takes place at New York’s SVA Theater today (May 3) at 5:30 p.m.
“John Singleton accomplished what all creators strive to do. He entertained but also inspired a generation of audiences. As the first African-American and youngest director to be nominated for an Academy Award at the age of 24, he allowed so many to envision themselves as change-makers,” said the Tribeca Film Festival’s co-founder Jane Rosenthal.
“We want to celebrate him as we consider the legacy that he has left behind and so the Festival is adding a free screening of BOYZ N THE HOOD on Friday, May 3rd for the community to come together, see his pivotal film, and honor John.”
Free tickets for the event can be obtained at the Tribeca Film Festival’s website.
