Why The Average Age For First-Time Parents Is Getting Older
In 2018, the number of births in America reached a 32 year low. Birth rates declined for nearly all age groups of women younger than 35, but rose for women in their late 30s and early 40s. Many believe Millennials, now in their 20’s and 30’s, are not achieving certain milestones at the age their preceding generation did such as purchasing a home, establishing a career and having a steady relationship.
Financial situations for individuals and families seem to be affected by the recession of 2008 which caused a lack of security to raise a child. Economists also say between 2017 and 2018, the birth rate of teenagers 15-19 declined 7%; women age 20-24 declined 4%; women age 25-29 declined 3% and women age 30-34 declined 1%.
However the birth rates for women 35% and older either increased or stayed the same through the same years. What do you think is the new normal age to have your first child nowadays? When did you have your first baby?
