Police are cracking down on distracted drivers on M-59!  They’re calling it “Operation Ghost Rider” according to the Transportation Improvement Association.  It was a 12 hour operation and the results are as follows:

  • 22 state, county and local officers stopped 300 vehicles
  • 295 citations were issued
  • Five arrests made

The following participated in the operation:

  • Michigan State Police
  • Macomb County Sheriff’s Office
  • Auburn Hills Police Department
  • Chesterfield Township Police Department
  • Clinton Township Police Department
  • Shelby Township Police Department
  • Sterling Heights Police Department
  • Utica Police Department

According to the TIA, in Michigan, 77 people were killed and 7,213 were injured in over 18,927 crashes.  All involving a distracted driver in 2018. If they’ve had this much success in such a short period of time, I guarantee this is only the beginning.  Put down that cell phone!
