There’s sad news for fans of Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It Netflix series, and named after and based upon Lee’s 1986 film.

The streaming behemoth has canceled the series after two seasons, reports Variety. The announcement comes almost two months after season two was released on the platform in May.

Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series She’s Gotta Have It (1986, based on his first feature film) to Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix. “While this is our last season, we’re very proud that it will be on our service for years to come, and excited to be working with Spike on his upcoming Netflix film Da 5 Bloods.”

Like the film, the show followed the free-spirited artist and photographer Nola Darling, who is portrayed by actress DeWanda Wise. Anthony Ramos, Ilfenesh Hadera, Cleo Anthony, Lyric Bent, Margot Bingham, Chyna Layne, and Fat Joe also star in the series.

The series consisted of 10 episodes during season one and nine episodes during season two. Every episode of the series, which was the iconic director’s first foray into television, was directed by Lee. The Academy Award winner also executive produced the series alongside Tonya Lewis Lee.

Da 5 Bloods stars Chadwick Boseman, Delroy Lindo, Giancarlo Esposito, and Jean Reno, and is a war drama about a group of Vietnam veterans. There’s currently no release date for the film.
