A New Bill Could Raise Minimum Wage to $15

On Thursday The House passed a bill that would raise federal minimum wage.

However, there’s little chance the Republican-controlled Senate will go for it.

The House vote was 231-199.
3 Republicans joined most Democrats in supporting the measure, while 6 Democrats opposed it.
The bill was a priority for progressives and gives a victory to a movement that’s taken nearly seven years to get this far.
Currently the bill has no major support from the Republican side.
The Raise the Wage Act would increase federal minimum wage gradually from $7.25 to $15 by 2025.
After that year, the rate will be recorded to the median hourly wage of all workers.
