On Wednesday, Universal Pictures released the trailer to Lena Waithe’s forthcoming film Queen & Slim starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith.

Waite wrote the script to the Melina Matsoukas-directed film. The plot involes a couple’s (Kaluuya and Turner-Smith) first date, which “takes an unexpected turn when a police officer pulls them over.”

Lena Waithe wrote the screenplay. The movie is Matsoukas’ feature-film directorial debut. She is a well-known music video director, having worked with Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Rihanna.

“Joining a legacy of films such as Bonnie and Clyde and Thelma & Louise, Queen & Slim is a powerful, consciousness-raising love story that confronts the staggering human toll of racism and the life-shattering price of violence,” according to a press release from Universal Pictures.

Queen & Slim will hit theaters in November.
