On Sunday (Aug. 25), Dave Chappelle hosted a block party and benefit show in Dayton, Ohio that was in honor of the victims of the recent mass shooting that took place in the midwestern city’s Oregon District.
Stevie Wonder, Chance the Rapper, Teyana Taylor, and Thundercat, among others, graced the stage. Stevie Wonder performed his hits such as “Higher Ground” and “Superstitious,” while Chance the Rapper performed his fan-favorite single “No Problem,” and Teyana Taylor sang her popular track “Gonna Love Me,” as Pitchfork reports.
The concert that Chapelle presented was free and titled the “Gem City Shine,” which was named after Dayton’s nickname. It was announced on Facebook, but the concert’s lineup was kept a secret.
Entertainment Weekly also reported that Talib Kweli, Chris Rock, and Jon Stewart also appeared on stage during the show. Prior to the benefit event, Chapelle attended Kanye West’s Sunday Service, which the rapper-producer also hosted in Dayton for the victims and survivors of the shooting that transpired on Aug. 4.
