Facebook Updates Facial Recognition Technology

The social media giant will FINALLY begin asking for your permission to be tagged via facial recognition in photos instead of making it a default feature.

Current users of the site will have to opt-in for the setting to take place, otherwise it will automatically be set to “off”.

This will allow for more privacy as opposed to letting people tag you without your consent.

This move on the part of Facebook comes after facial recognition gained a great deal of controversy with the technology being misused in cases of online harassment, and mistaken identity.

In a recent blog, Facebook noted, “We’ve continued to engage with privacy experts, academics, regulators and people on Facebook about how we use face recognition and the options you have to control it.”

Are YOU comfortable with using the facial recognition feature on Facebook?
