Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be headlining this year’s Super Bowl show and some people are upset about how much pop there’s been.

David Draiman from the rock band, Disturbed thinks it’s time for something new. He made a public bid to sing the national anthem this time around.

He’s getting support for that bid from another rocker, Corey Taylor from the band Slipknot.

What I’ve always told people who complain about the music at the Super Bowl is that it’s designed to be family friendly and mass appeal. You can’t go wrong with a pop act because they’re mainstream and typically safe. When you go the hip-hop route, you run the risk of offending someone with explicit lyrics. Rock may be a little much for the older audience. One could argue that hip-hop is the new mainstream so could we see a major hip-hop act soon? The NFL reaches such a wide audience. You can’t please everyone!
