Monopoly is one of the most popular (and fun) board games of all-time, and this Saturday, October 19th, Ally Financial is bringing a whole new Monopoly playing experience to Downtown Detroit.
Over the next few weeks, Ally Financial will be transforming the streets of Downtown Detroit into a phone-based augmented reality game based on the classic board game. The initiative aims to help educate the public and raise awareness about sound financial decisions.
“Monopoly is a game about managing money and making smart investment decisions, and as a bank, that’s what we want to encourage,” Ally Financial Chief Marketing Officer Andrea Brimmer said.
Players will play the game by entering an online portal on their phones. Once they enter the portal, it will direct them to different locations around the city. At each location, when the player takes a photo with their phone, Mr Monopoly will appear with some financial advice and a set of instructions about finding the player’s next destination.
Ally Bank will be giving out over $1 million in prizes and donating $50,000 to a local group for the weeks-long event. Prizes include cash awards of $200 and $500, a Jeep Wrangler, tickets to local games and concerts, and mystery prizes.
