Today, Swedish clothing retailer H&M will open a new location in the heart of Downtown Detroit.

Located at 1505 Woodward Ave, the store occupies a 25,000 square foot space leased by Bedrock.

Samara D’Auria, media relations manager for H&M stated “The one thing about when we come into cities… [it] is about finding the best location possible.  I think for a city as unique as Detroit, they were looking for the best location downtown”.

Retail analysts consider H&M to be a “flagship brand”, which means that when H&M sets up a new location, other big brands often follow suit and set up retail storefronts in the same area.  Ideally, this new store will inspire other large retailers to do just that: open up locations of their own in the Downtown Detroit area, creating jobs and boosting economic activity within the city.

To celebrate the grand opening, the first 500 customers will receive a free Fashion Pass valued between $10 and $500.  All customers after the first 500 will receive a $10 Fashion Pass.

What do you think about the new H&M location opening today?  Will you shop there?  If not, are you excited about the economic boost it could provide to our city?
