Earlier this week, Gello and Joanna spoke with a representative from Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan’s office.  The topic of conversation?  The U.S. Census.

The U.S. Census is run every 10 years by the federal government counts the total population in each area of the country.

This may seem like an unimportant event, but it actually has a wide-ranging impact on local and state communities.

For instance, one purpose of the Census is to divide seats in the U.S. House of Representatives by population. Furthermore, Census data plays a big role in determining the budgeting and allocation of Federal moneys to smaller communities and governments.
