HOUSTON, TX - JUNE 09: Singer Ne-Yo performs a song during the funeral for George Floyd at The Fountain of Praise church on June 9, 2020 in Houston, Texas. Floyd died after being restrained by Minneapolis Police officers on May 25, sparking global protests.

Ne-Yo paid tribute to George Floyd at his funeral by performing; while there, he spoke about how Floyd’s death impacted him. “50 states are protesting at the same time, this man changed the world. I just want to thank George Floyd for the sacrifice so my kids can be alright. I appreciate the sacrifice, I really do,” Ne-Yo said.

However, Ne-Yo’s comment upset a lot of people who vented on social media; many took offense to his reference of a “sacrifice.”
