As a mom that is sometimes lazy and just wants to use a bag salad…this is concerning!  I’m going to check my fridge!

The FDA and CDC are investigating a cyclospora outbreak tied to the bagged salad by Aldi, Jewel-Osco, and Hy-Vee grocery stores.

The alert which went out last week named Little Salad Bar Brand Garden Salad from Aldi, Hy-Vee Brand Garden Salad from Hy-Vee, and Signature Farms Brand Garden Salad from Jewel-Osco as being possibly infected with cyclospora.

The salad has been recalled and removed from store shelves in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Here are he details of the recalled items:

  • ALDI Little Salad Bar brand Garden Salad sold in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
  • Hy-Vee brand 12-ounce bagged Garden Salad sold in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
  • Jewel-Osco Signature Farms brand 12-ounce bagged Garden Salad sold in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa.

Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that infects the intestinal tract causing diarrhea. 76 people were reported sick and 16 of them were hospitalized, no deaths were reported. For more on the Cyclospora outbreak along with UPC numbers affected go to FDA.gov.
