DMX vs. Snoop Versuz: J. Steele’s Score Card
If you missed the DMX vs. Snoop Versuz battle, you missed an event! I think this was hands down the best battle thus far and those two showing each other love made things even better. Here’s the exclusive J. Steele scorecard:
Round 1: Snoop Dogg’s “Deep Cover” vs. DMX’s “Intro”
Winner: Snoop Dogg – talk about a classic!
Round 2: Snoop Dogg’s “Who Am I? (What’s My Name?)” vs. DMX’s “What’s My Name?”
While DMX brought the guns out with this one, this breakout smash from Snoop makes him the winner.
Winner: Snoop Dogg
Round 3: Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice” vs. DMX feat. Sheek Louch’s “Get at Me Dog”
Talk about a 105.1 The Bounce staple here with Gin and Juice!
Winner: Snoop Dogg
Round 4: Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg’s “Dre Day” vs. Ruff Ryders feat. DMX’s “Some X S–t”
Dre Day is forever one of my all time favorite diss records. Dre and Snoop’s bars were unbeatable.
Winner: Snoop Dogg
Round 5: Tupac & Snoop Dogg’s “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” vs. DMX’s “Stop Being Greedy”
I mean, how many rappers do you know rapping today that has a feature with Pac? Also, a record that tells a story? Yeah you got it Snoop!
Winner: Snoop Dogg
Round 6: Snoop Dogg feat. C-Murder & Magic’s “Down 4 My N’s” vs. Jay-Z feat. DMX’s “Money, Cash, H–s”
This one was VERY close for me and I was having debates with myself and coworkers. I DO think that Snoop record is HOT but his verse doesn’t top that classic from Jigga and X.
Winner: DMX
Round 7: Snoop Dogg feat. Kurupt, Nate Dogg & Warren G’s “Aint No Fun” vs. Aaliyah feat. DMX’s “Come Back in One Piece”
Another tough one because you’re talking a Warren G tribute vs. an Aaliyah tribute. Ain’t No Fun I think still rings bells today and was the bigger record overall.
Winner: Snoop Dogg
Round 8: Snoop Dogg feat. Xzibit’s “B—h Please” vs. DMX “X Gon’ Give It To Ya”
The energy from this DMX record is unlike no other. Swizz Beatz did his THING on this beat. X takes the cake.
Winner: DMX
Round 9: Snoop Dogg’s “Gz and Hustlas” vs. DMX’s “Who We Be”
What I didn’t know is according to Billboard, “Who We Be” actually earned DMX a Grammy nomination for best solo rap performance back in 2001. I’m showing my age here with not growing up on Gz and Hustlas when it dropped, I got X.
WINNER: DMX
Round 10: Snoop Dogg’s “Tha Shiznit” vs. DMX’s “Get It On the Floor”
X has 3 in a row right now! If you still drop “Get It On The Floor” at an event, people are hype. Swizz Beatz, BRO!! You’re killin em!
Winner: DMX
Round 11: DMX’s “F—-n Wit’ D” vs. Snoop Dogg feat. Master P, Nate Dogg, Butch Cassidy & The Eastsidaz’s “Lay Low”
So many legends on one record that you put on today and you still remember it.
Winner: Snoop Dogg
Round 12: DMX’s “What These B—–s Want” vs. Snoop Dogg feat. Pharrell & Charlie Wilson’s “Beautiful”
I had this one VERY close. Damn what a monster record for Snoop, but the name dropping that DMX did in this song makes him the winner. What a legendary record!
Winner: DMX
Round 13: DMX’s “How’s It Goin’ Down” vs. Snoop Dogg’s “Pump Pump”
This DMX record puts him in a different bag and shows off his style. DMX, this round belongs to you.
Winner: DMX
Round 14: DMX’s “It’s All Good” vs. Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg’s “B—hes Ain’t S–t”
Both records weren’t monster mainstream hits but both just sound good and the bars are A1. Classic records. This is my first TIE.
Winner: Tie
Round 15: DMX’s “Slippin'” vs. Snoop Dogg’s “Murder Was the Case”
This was a tie last night for me but I am in love with that song from DMX. What an important record and Snoop even recognized that by singing along to the song. DMX staple.
Winner: DMX
Round 16: DMX feat. The Lox & Mase’s “N—az Done Started Something” vs Snoop Dogg feat. The Dramatics & Tha Dogg Pound’s “Doggy Dogg World”
I mean, Snoop dropping his Dramatics record towards the end is super appropriate. Well played, Snoop.
Winner: Snoop Dogg
Round 17: LL Cool J feat. Method Man, Redman, Canibus, DMX, & Master P’s “4,3,2,1,” vs. Snoop Dogg feat. The Eastsidaz’s “I Luv It”
So many spitters on one record just riding the beat!!! DMX saved a good one for the end.
Winner: DMX
Round 18: The Lox Featuring Lil’ Kim & DMX’s “Money, Power & Respect” vs. 50 Cent feat. Snoop Dogg’s “P.I.M.P. Remix”
The P.I.M.P. remix is CLASSIC for me. I can recite the entire Snoop verse but there’s no way it beats Money, Power & Respect. The song along will wipe away Snoop’s verse.
Winner: DMX
Round 19: DMX’s “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” vs. Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg’s “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang”‘
This is probably the toughest round thus far. Both of these songs are LEGENDARY hip-hop staples and also Bounce staples as well. I can’t choose one. It’s impossible.
Winner: Tie
Round 20: DMX’s “Party Up (Up in Here)” vs. Snoop Dogg feat. Pharrell’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot”
Another VERY close round and this one could be deemed a tie and I wouldn’t be mad at that, but Party Up was just so massive that no matter how old you are, you’ve heard this record. DMX takes the cake at the end.
Winner: DMX
Versuz Winner: DMX 12-10 in a VERY close win – CLASSIC battle and one of the biggest moments in Hip-Hop history.
Oh, and they even freestyled at the end!
