President Trump’s New Executive Order Offers $400 a Week Unemployment Benefits, Student Loan Relief and More
Over the weekend, President Trump bypassed the Senate and House and signed a series of executive orders surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The new orders extend unemployment benefits, suspend payroll taxes and give federal eviction and student loan relief, according to NBC News.
Trump’s orders aim to extend unemployment benefit payments at a rate of $400 a week, although it wasn’t made clear how soon the new benefits will kick in.
He also included a payroll tax holiday in the executive order through the end of the year for Americans earning less than $100,000 a year. Those, he said, would become permanent if he’s reelected in November.
It’s not certain the executive branch of government has the power to take many of the moves laid out in the orders, so time will tell if the new actions go into place.
