Frogs of different species make different sounds.  They can chirp, peep, cluck, bark, or grunt.  And only one species makes the "ribbit" sound, but it's native to California, so it's the one that sound engineers originally recorded for movies . . . and that made it the sound we associate with ALL frogs.)
