A Few Days Left for Michigan Front-Line Workers to Apply for Free Community College
The deadline for Futures for Frontliners is approaching.
The program, which enables front-line workers to apply for free community college, was launched earlier this year amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to offer front-line workers without a college education the chance to earn an associate’s degree or an industry-recognized certificate for free.
The deadline is Dec. 31. Applicants without a high school diploma may still apply.
“Our frontline workers put their lives on the line every day to provide crucial support to our families during this pandemic, and they deserve support long after this crisis is over,” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said in a statement. “That’s what the Futures for Frontliners program is all about. I encourage everyone who is eligible to take advantage of this free path to a degree or skills certificate they’ve been dreaming about.
More than 100,000 essential workers have already applied for the program since it opened in September.
Those who don’t qualify for free tuition through Futures for Frontliners can look into other options to get free college credit via Michigan’s Sixty by 30 program, an incentive trying to get 60% of working-age residents a degree or certificate beyond high school by 2030.
