Detroit Riverfront Ranked Best Riverwalk in U.S.

Congratulations are in order for a Detroit landmark.

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy announced today (Feb. 26) that the Detroit Riverwalk is the Best Riverwalk in the 2021, according to a USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards contest.

“The Detroit Riverfront is a very special place for our city and we are honored by this recognition,” Matt Cullen, board chairman of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, said in a statement. “We have a tremendous year ahead and will continue to set the bar even higher as we finish up the East Riverfront and move to the west.”

Riverfronts in Wilmington, North Carolina, Philadelphia, San Antonio and Cincinnati were also in the top five picks on the tally. View the full list here.

According to USA Today, a panel of experts partnered with 10Best editors to pick the top 20 nominees. Then, the top 10 winners were chosen by popular vote.

Roughly 3.5 million people visit the Detroit Riverfront each year, and it’s stayed open even amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
