Kirk Franklin Apologizes After Son Shares Expletive-Filled Phone Call
Kirk Franklin has apologized after his adult son took to social media to share audio of the Grammy-winning gospel artist engaging in a profanity-filled argument.
Franklin, who hosts BET’s reality singing show “Sunday Best,” shared a video apology last weekend via Twitter explaining the situation.
“Many of you know that I have an older son named Kerrion Franklin, in May he’ll be 33,” he said. “For many years we have had a toxic relationship with him as a family.”
Kerrion’s post consisted of audio of a phone call with his dad, which is shared on Instagram, stating, “This is why I’m done. No father should speak to their children like this.”
The Instagram clip has audio of Kirk using expletives and insulting his son.
Kirk added in his apology video that he and his family have worked to get counseling “to try to rectify this private family matter.”
“Recently my son and I had an argument that he chose to record,” Kirk said. “I felt extremely disrespected in that conversation and I lost my temper and I said words that are not appropriate and I am sincerely sorry to all of you. I sincerely apologize.”
Kirk added that during that argument, he got their family therapist on the phone, but that his son didn’t share that part of the call.
“I’m not perfect,” Kirk added. “I’m human and I’m gonna make mistakes and I’m trying to get it right. Please keep me and your family in your prayers.”
