Federal Unemployment Benefits to End in Michigan on Sept. 4
Unemployment will end for hundreds of thousands of Michigan residents starting Sept. 4, when federal benefits expire.
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency announced that starting Sept. 4, four federal programs will end: Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, Pandemic Unemployment Compensation and Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation programs.
The federal programs were instituted under the CARES Act in April 2020 and extended as part of the American Rescue Plan Act approved in February of this year.
“These federal programs provided much needed financial relief to those who experienced job losses as a result of the pandemic,” Liza Estlund Olson, acting director of the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency, said in a statement. “We want to make sure Michiganders who have been receiving these temporary benefits are aware of other resources available to help them get back on their feet and find new employment opportunities.”
State unemployment will continue, but workers won’t be able to receive federal unemployment.
