‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ Reboot Has Cast Their New Prince
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot has officially announced their new Fresh Prince in a very exciting way.
In a Zoom call, Will Smith dialed up Jabari Banks, the young actor who will be reprising Smith’s role for Peacock’s reboot. The reboot will go by simply as Bel-Air. Banks was blown away hearing he got the role and that Smith was the one to tell him the good news. According to Banks, his dad sent him an article about the reboot and just said, “You should do this,” and Banks had to explain to him that “Dad, it doesn’t work like that.” Banks’ dad was persistent and now Jabari ended up with the coveted role.
Bel-Air will be a little different than the 30-minute sitcom from the ’90s that we’ve grown to love and will take on an entirely new style and format. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Bel-Air will be a serialized one-hour “dramatic analogue” that follows “Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined vision, Bel-Air will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show.”
Since the show just cast the Fresh Prince, we probably won’t be seeing the Bel-Air for a while but it’s great to see Banks, who is a West Philly native take on the role.
