Amazon Adding Four Major Sites in Michigan, Hiring at All New Facilities
Amazon.com, Inc. Wednesday (Sept. 8) announced plans to open its first mid-Michigan fulfillment center, as well as three operations facilities in metro Detroit and the Grand Rapids area.
Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $6 billion in Michigan, according to a release, and created more than 21,000 jobs across the state. The company is scheduled to add more than 1,500 jobs in Michigan by the end of 2021.
“We’re excited to expand our investment throughout the state of Michigan with the addition of these new facilities,” Alicia Boler Davis, senior vice president of global customer fulfillment, said in a statement. “This expansion not only allows us to better serve our customers across the state, but also enables us to boost the local economy and drive more opportunities for job creation. We’re proud to have created more than 21,000 jobs so far, and look forward to our continued growth in Michigan.”
“We are very excited that Amazon has chosen Canton for its new Delivery Station facility,” added Anne Marie Graham-Hudak, supervisor, Canton. “The project will bring hundreds of jobs to the community, and a new energy to Michigan Avenue. We look forward to working with them for years to come.”
New Amazon sites coming to Michigan include the company’s first fulfillment center in Delta Charter Township west of Lansing, which is expected to create more than 500 new, full-time jobs; a sort center and a delivery station in Gaines Township near Grand Rapids; and a delivery station in Canton Township.
