Michigan Featured in Adorable Lifetime Christmas Movie

'Tis the season for Lifetime and Hallmark Christmas movies, and Michigan is getting a big spotlight in one of them. I admit it's totally a guilty pleasure of mine to watch these holiday movies. They always have a happy ending and leave me feeling warm and fuzzy. What's a girl not to like?

A brand new Lifetime original movie called "Miracle in Motor City" debuts on the channel at 8 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 28) and will rerun through Christmas. The storyline follows Amber, portrayed by Tia Mowry-Hardrict, trying to describe to her foster daughter, Lily (Markeda McKay), what tradition is and what makes it extra special around the holidays.

The show is set in the Motor City, and what's extra cool is that a musical great, Smokey Robinson, co-stars in it. They had to twist Robinson's arm to appear in the film, though, as he plays himself and usually doesn't like doing that.

“I want to do movies, but I don’t want to play myself," he told Billboard. "But my agent sent it to me and said, ‘Hey man, this is a great script. It’s about a Black family in Detroit at Christmastime and you’re in it — but you have to be you. Before you say no, I want you to read it.’ I read it and I thought it was warm, wonderful and sweet — and I hope it brings some positive feelings for the people of Detroit.”

So, how much of the show was actually filmed in Detroit? Truth be told, a lot of the filming was done in the Toronto area, but the show features exterior shots of Detroit, such as the Joe Louis fist, Campus Martius, the Lafayette Coney Island and American Coney Island restaurants and more. There's enough Detroit flavor to make it an interesting watch for anyone who loves the Motor City.
