Students celebrating graduation

AcademicInfluence.com has updated their list of the top colleges and universities in the U.S., and two Michigan colleges are high up on the list.

When it comes to cost, the outlet suggests sticking with an in-state school, explaining “For many students, attending an in-state college or university continues to provide tuition benefits. The cost advantages they receive from attending a school in their state may be the deciding factor in pursuing a college degree. The convenience of a school within driving distance also factors into costs by providing locals with commuting as an alternative to expensive on-campus housing.”

“Students today want more value from their college choices, which is why choosing an in-state education continues to be attractive. Rising costs are a staple of daily news stories. We want to shift the focus off expensive out-of-state schools and onto the best in-state schools each state has to offer its students,” says Dr. Jed Macosko, academic director of AcademicInfluence.com and professor of physics at Wake Forest University.

So, which Michigan colleges are among the best? The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor came in at No. 9 on the tally, and Michigan State University in East Lansing came in at No. 39. Other schools that were ranked among the best in Michigan but didn’t make the top 100 best in the U.S. included Adrian College, Albion College, Alma College, Andrews University, Calvin University, Central Michigan University, Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Davenport University, Eastern Michigan University, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Hope College, Kalamazoo College, Kettering University, Lake Superior State University, Lawrence Technological University, Madonna University, Michigan Technological University, Northern Michigan University, Oakland University, Olivet College, Saginaw Valley State University, Spring Arbor University, University of Detroit Mercy, University of Michigan, University of Michigan in Dearborn, University of Michigan in Flint, Wayne State University and Western Michigan University.

AcademicInfluence.com, according to their website, “is the preeminent, technology-driven, academic rankings site dedicated to students, researchers, and inquirers from high school through college and beyond.” Find the full list of the top 100 universities in the U.S. here.
