Questlove is calling for more attention to be brought to WNBA player Brittney Griner’s case. Griner has been detained since February when she was arrested at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Russia for allegedly carrying vape cartridges containing oil derived from cannabis in her luggage.

“Can my media people take compassion to bring attention to this situation?” he wrote. “#Repost @michaelaangelad THIS IS WHAT TRAUMA LOOKS LIKE. The lack of urgency and care for Black women personified in Brittney Griner. This must be treated like the international crisis it is! #BrittneyGriner #FreeHerNOW.”

The offense could land the basketball star 10 years in prison.

Griner’s case is not the only political issue The Roots drummer has publicly brought his attention to. He recently shared a clip from The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, “Yeah yeah I normally don’t amplify the other shows for certain reasons but these aren’t normal times at all,” the Grammy-winning artist who also plays on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon wrote.”We are not powerless, and we are never beyond hope. History shows us the way. We CAN do more to pursue these items more aggressively. And THEN once we do, we can secure the W and turnout the vote for @johnfetterman in PA, @theothermandela in WI & @timryanoh in OH this November:
– expansion of SCOTUS
– end the Senate filibuster
– repeal the Hyde Amendment
– codify Roe, same-sex marriage, right to contraception, and interracial marriage
Let’s do this!”
