Gunna Receives Support From Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian wants Gunna free from jail. The rapper is currently being held in a Fulton County jail on a racketeering charge for his alleged involvement against his and Young Thug’s YSL collective. Gunna has been in jail since May as part of a 56-count RICO case involving the label.
After two unsuccessful bond hearings, the Georgia native’s legal team is now trying to get the rapper’s case in front of a Henry County judge, the neighboring Georgia county where Gunna is currently being held. According to Billboard, Gunna’s attorneys filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus — a constitutional summons that allows prisoners to challenge their imprisonment — on Tuesday (July 19).
“To allow Mr. Kitchens [Gunna’s real name] to be held in jail by the unsworn claims and conclusions of the state, devoid of any specific facts or supporting evidence – over objection by the defense – is to render his presumption of innocence meaningless and to discard his right to due process,” his attorneys wrote per the outlet.
Kardashian, who has used her influence to help incarcerated Black men and women in the past, has brought more attention to Gunna’s case.
“#FreeGunna [free emoji] [parking emoji],” the SKIMS founder tweeted which has now amassed over 40,000 retweets.
