R. Kelly Stands Trial in Chicago: What to Know
Jury selection for R. Kelly’s Chicago trial starts on Monday (August 15). Kelly is accused of creating and receiving child pornography, luring kids into illegal sexual behavior, and obstructing justice.
The obstructing justice charge stems from a 2008 child pornography case where Kelly was acquitted. Federal prosecutors say Kelly and his cronies threatened and bribed witnesses in a previous trial.
The alleged 2008 victim will testify. Kelly’s former manager Derrel McDavid and employee Milton Brown will also be tried. All three defendants have pled not guilty.
R. Kelly was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in his New York case.
Since the trial has begun, R. Kelly has already asked the judge to ban jurors who’ve seen “Surviving R. Kelly” from the trial.
I can’t believe this case is still going on. He’s already spending the rest of his life in prison from the NY case. I’m excited for when we’re done having to discuss the “Pied Piper of R&B”.
