Nicki Minaj Hints At Dropping An Album This Year
Is new music from Nicki Minaj on the way? During a conversation with Jada Pinkett Smith for Interview Magazine, the Queens rapper indicated that her long-awaited fifth LP will be released in 2022.
“I wasn’t sure how I was even feeling about having to put out an album this year, but that song happening and people liking it, that made me happy,” Nicki said, referring to her No. 1 Billboard hit “Super Freaky Girl.” “Super Freaky Girl” was the Grammy-nominated rapper’s first solo number one following two collaborations that hit number one: “Trollz,” with 6ix9ine, and her featured turn on Doja Cat’s “Say So,” both in 2020.
She added: “People have gone through so much recently that they want to have fun. It’ll probably expedite the album to come out this year.”
As for the album, Nicki might already have an executive producer in mind. During a Q+A with her fans back in March, her former labelmate Drake came up in discussion as a possible executive producer for her next project. So far this year, Nicki has been busy in the studio. The Pink Friday creator has released “Do We Have a Problem?” and “Bussin,” both of which feature Lil Baby. She also dropped Fivio Foreign-assisted tack “We Go Up” and the aforementioned “Super Freaky Girl.”
Nicki Minaj’s last album Queen was released in August 2018 and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Queen featured rappers Eminem, Foxy Brown, Future, Swae Lee, and Lil Wayne. It also featured singers Ariana Grande, Labrinth, and the Weeknd.
