Michigan Snowstorm Means People Are Already Skiing [Video]
Mid-October is way too early to be getting snow, if you ask me, but that’s just what happened in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this week. A snowstorm brought snow, cold winds and high waves to the Great Lakes region on Tuesday (Oct. 18), and that resulted in more than a foot of snow in some areas.
The storm made its way over northern Lake Huron on Monday and landed in the U.P. the next day. The National Weather Service had everyone on alert that a big storm was coming, but I think it was still a bit of a surprise. According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, Michigan, waves on Lake Superior got up to about 15 feet on Tuesday afternoon.
Even areas outside of the Upper Peninsula got hit with cold weather this week. Overnight freeze warnings were in effect for areas of Michigan, Missouri, Indiana and Kansas. Record-breaking cold temperatures are also projected for areas of Mississippi Valley and beyond.
Believe it or not, with more than a foot of snow in the U.P., some people were already full-fledged skiing! I know people here in Michigan love their skiing and winter activities, but not in October, okay? Check out a video that was posted onto the public Facebook group “Skiers and Snowboarders of the Midwest” below. I really wish it was spring, because I’m not ready for the snow and ice, nor am I ever ready for it. But, I’ll take what I can get, as Michigan is projected to have warm temperatures again this weekend, and all the snow in the U.P. is already expected to melt.
