Michigan is a great place to live, and now, one town in the Mitten has been named one of the best in America.

Each year, Money.com releases it ranking of the 50 Best Places to Live in the U.S. "We look at the things that matter most to people: economic opportunities, quality of life, diversity, and where the best futures lie," they state.

So, which Michigan town made the cut? Ann Arbor came in at No. 24 on the list. "Dismissing Ann Arbor as just another college town would do this southeast Michigan city — often called Tree Town — a huge disservice," they state. "Sure, University of Michigan game days have the town bustling, but for the 121,000 residents that live here, cheering on the Wolverines at The Big House (or at a nearby sports bar) is just a fraction of what Ann Arbor has to offer."

They add, "There’s also a flourishing arts scene, a growing number of breweries and wineries, a year-round farmers market and an active downtown full of locally-owned shops and restaurants. If you head to the downtown district, make sure to locate all the tiny 'fairy doors' business owners have hidden throughout the area. (And open them, too! Each one reveals a unique fairy 'home' to explore.) Ann Arbor also boasts the top hospital in the state and claims the second-highest educational score on our list. U-M has something to do with that, but Ann Arbor’s public schools are highly rated, too." For the full story on the 50 Best Places to Live in the U.S., go here.

Each year, U.S. News & World Report comes out with its rankings for the best colleges in the United States. Michigan, of course, is known for having great colleges and universities, so it's no surprise that the Mitten is a often a favorite on the list.

Now, U.S. News & World Report has released its 2022-2023 Best Colleges rankings, and a whopping 46 colleges and universities in Michigan were ranked among the best. So which schools were on top?

U.S. News has been publishing this guide of the best colleges across the U.S. for almost 40 years. According to a release, methodology has evolved over the years to reflect changes in higher education, says Kim Castro, editor and chief content officer at U.S. News. U.S. News prides itself on offering a ranking for millions of parents with "useful data and information to help with one of life's biggest decisions," Castro said.

In this year's study, U.S. News ranked a massive 1,500 colleges and universities in 17 academic measures. When going about ranking, U.S. News first put each school into a category based on its mission and, sometimes, its geographic location. There are also different lists for different kinds of universities. National universities are research-heavy and have several doctoral programs, while liberal arts colleges are ranked separately.

Regarding Michigan's schools, U.S. News states, "Top colleges and universities are located throughout Michigan and in cities such as Detroit, Grand Rapids, Flint, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor. Lansing, the state capital, is home to one of the largest colleges in the U.S., Michigan State University, which enrolls more than 37,000 undergraduate students annually. Higher education options in Michigan include large research universities, private midsize colleges and several small, notable liberal arts colleges." Read on for 10 Michigan colleges and universities that made the cut. I'm happy to see my alma matter, Michigan State University, on the tally.
