Michigan to Get Dangerous Winds This Weekend – Here’s Where
Is is really November? The weather has been in the 60s and even 70s for much of lower Michigan this month, and I’m not complaining. I’d love to miss the snow all together, but I know there are plenty of snow lovers that are ready for it.
This weekend across lower Michigan, those mild temperatures are expected to continue. That’s good news for people like me who love the warm temperatures, but make not that Michigan is also expected to get some dangerous winds this weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in effect from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 5). The advisory is for a big part of central and southeast Michigan including Detroit, Midland, Flint, Owosso, Ann Arbor and Lapeer. According to the advisory, south winds between 20 and 30 mph and gusts of up to 50 mph will come through the area. Some isolated areas could even gets gusts up to 55 mph in southwest Michigan. The National Weather Service also predicts the high winds could bring down tree limbs and result in power outages. Outside of central and southeast Michigan, windy conditions are expected to be prevalent on Lake Michigan and the areas directly off the lake. Gales are expected for Saturday, too.
Be prepared for power outages and charge your electronic devices while you still have power. Tips from Consumer Energy to deal with a power outage include having emergency batteries or charging stations, as well as an emergency kit with necessary items such as batteries, flashlights, canned food, water, blankets and a radio that’s powered by batteries. They also suggest unplugging electronics like televisions and computers. Temperatures are still expected to get into the low 70s for much of Saturday across lower Michigan. Sunday will bring sunshine with highs in the 60s, according to the National Weather Service.
