Takeoff’s Funeral To Be Held At State Farm Arena In Atlanta
Takeoff (born Kirshnik Khari Ball) will be laid to rest Friday (Nov. 11) at the State Farm Arena in his home city of Atlanta. The rapper was one-third of the rap trio Migos which consisted of his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset.
The venue, which is home to the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks who paid tribute to the late rapper last week, has the capacity to host more than 20,000 people.
Takeoff’s pastor Rev. Jesse Curney III of New Mercies Christian Church will be officiating the services, he announced Monday (Nov. 7).
“I was really sad to hear the news,” the pastor said in a statement obtained by TMZ. “Kirshnik has been a faithful member since he was ten years old. He and his family were active and avid supporters of the church and the community as a whole.”
Details about how to attend have not been released, but the event is reportedly set for 1 p.m. Friday.
Takeoff was shot and killed at a private party at 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston Tuesday (Nov. 1) which he attended with Quavo, gossip site TMZ first reported. Quavo was not injured during the incident. Takeoff was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims — a 23-year-old male and 24-year-old female — checked themselves into a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, per Billboard. It was later reported that the 23-year-old male victim was Quavo’s Assistant, Joshua ‘Wash’ Washington, per TMZ.
The late rapper was known as the laidback member of the group which was signed to Quality Control in 2013. The label gave condolences to Takeoff’s family via social media.
“It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother Kirsnick Khari Ball, known to the world as Takeoff,” a statement posted to the label’s social media reads. “Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world and we are devastated.”
The label continued by asking fans to “respect his family and friends as we all continue to process this monumental loss.”
The Harris County Medical Examiner lists Takeoff’s primary cause of death as “penetrating gunshot wounds of head and torso into arm,” TMZ reports. Law enforcement sources recently told the tabloid that “they’re vigorously investigating the argument that led to the 28-year-old rapper’s death but haven’t pinpointed any suspect just yet.”
