Bhad Bhabie Responds To Backlash Over ‘Blackfishing’ Selfie
Bhad Bhabie (born Danielle Bregoli) is under fire for her latest selfie that drew a lot of “blackfishing” allegations from users on social media. On Monday (Nov. 14), the “Gucci Flip Flops” rapper and “Cash Me Outside” originator caught some heat from fans who noticed her complexion appearing darker and having fuller lips than usual in a video posted to her Instagram Story. The video was captured and reposted by The Shade Room with IG users sounding off in the comment section.
“Idc what she says, she wants to be blac (sic),” one user wrote. One person remixed Dr. Suess’ famous nursery rhyme to explain how they felt about her video, “1fish. 2 fish. BLACK FISH!”
One fan was bold enough to jump in the rapper’s DMs and ask to see what shade of foundation she was wearing in the video. The rapper responded with a photo of her makeup that was seemingly lighter than the complexion displayed in the video with the words “Case Closed” written across the foundation tube.
In a separate Instagram Story post, the social media personality wrote, “Don’t y’all ever ask me again why I don’t be on IG! I don’t make no money on here. I don’t need to be on here. I do it for my fans but y’all take it too far every time. It’s honestly sad and weird.”
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Bhad Bhabie has been accused of blackfishing. Prior to this incident, the rapper used Lil’ Kim as an example of altering her appearance. The legendary rapper has spoken several times that she was in an abusive relationship back in the early 2000s, which led her to have multiple surgeries.
“I used darker foundation,” Bhad Bhabie said previously. “Lil Kim uses foundation that … no disrespect toward Lil Kim. I’m actually a fan of hers. No disrespect to her, but the girl wears foundation that’s too light for her face. The girl went and got a nose job to have a smaller nose like white people. Like y’all don’t see that? She turned herself into … like I said, no disrespect toward her. I don’t have no problem with it. She can do what she do and make her happy.”
The rap legend did not take too kindly of the social media personality bringing her name up unwarranted and fired back.
“That Lil Kim hate different. Now that’s power,” Lil’ Kim responded via her Instagram Story at the time. “How tf I become a target in the middle of a pandemic? There’s more important things going on in the world right now but you better believe when this is all over ima put a date and address on it and seal it with a kiss.”
