Lil Yachty Shares ‘Non-Rap’ Album ‘Let’s Start Here’
Lil Yachty has dropped his first full-length project in three years titled Let’s Start Here. His newest project strays away from his eccentric rap and takes an alternative approach.
In an interview with Ice Box last year, the rapper hinted that he would be moving in this direction. “My new album is a non-rap album,” he said. “It’s alternative, it’s sick… It’s like a psychedelic alternative project. It’s different. It’s all live instrumentation.”
Let’s Start Here contains no features and follows the release of the nearly two-minute skit titled “Department of Mental Tranquility.” The video shows the rapper entering a building named after the skit while he’s asked mounds of questions from the receptionist. He answers the questions and later walks into the white light.
Yachty is somewhat familiar with this genre as he collaborated with Tame Impala on a 2021 remix of “Breathe Deeper” from The Slow Rush B-Sides & Remixes.
Yachty released his last full-length album, Lil Boat 3, on May 29, 2020. It featured guest appearances from Tierra Whack, ASAP Rocky, Tyler, the Creator, Future, Draft Day, DaBaby, Drake, Lil Keed, Young Thug, and Lil Durk. The album spawned three singles: “Oprah’s Bank Account”, “Split/Whole Time”, and “Coffin”.
