Michigan Bracing for Dangerous Winter Weather – Here’s Where
Michigan has enjoyed some very warm and spring-like weather – or fall-like, however you see it – for most of January and February. I’ve personally been loving the warm Michigan winter that doesn’t feel like winter. That’s changing on Thursday (Feb. 16), though, as dangerous winter weather it set to hit much of lower Michigan.
A winter weather advisory is in place for much of lower Michigan today. According to the National Weather Service, the precipitation will include freezing rain, sleet, rain and snow, so pretty much a mix of everything. Accumulations are expected range from 1 to 4 inches throughout most of lower Michigan, which may not sound like a lot, but when ice is involved, in can get dangerous. According to forecasters, the rain and sleet will freeze when it hits the ground, which makes streets slippery. Also, ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are expected, which also adds a treacherous layer to the weather report.
As for when and where to expect hazardous weather, for those on the west side of the state and in mid-Michigan, the National Weather Service has implemented a winter weather advisory that’s already in place, starting at 7 a.m. Thursday and ending at 7 a.m. Friday. For those on the east side of the state, the winter weather advisory is in place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday. Friday should be quiet across the state, but temperatures look to be in the 20s or 30s, so cold. The good news is that temperatures are projected to climb back into the 40s on both Saturday and Sunday, which should melt most of this mess. Stay warm and safe. Spring is about one month away.
