Nicki Minaj Announces New Single ‘Red Ruby Da Sleeze’
Nicki Minaj is making her 2023 solo debut with a new single titled “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” The track is expected to arrive next Friday (March 3).
The rapper announced the new track on Instagram by showing behind-the-scenes footage of the music video shoot. She followed up with cover art where she is posed next to a chef holding a frying pan.
In the footage from the music video, you hear Nicki rap, “Hunnit rounds on dat gratata,” while women twerk beside her. The visual takes place in Nicki’s home island of Trinidad and Tobago where the 2023 Carnival took place this week.
This is the Queens rapper’s first solo single since her No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Super Freaky Girl” last year. The track sampled the iconic Rick James’ 1981 “Super Freak.” It was the Pink Friday creator’s first ever solo song to top the chart, and the first No. 1 debut for a hip-hop song by a female artist with no accompanying acts since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.
Nicki thanked all the Barbz for their support to get the song at No. 1. “You did it barbz,” she wrote. “You did it. I love you so much. like so so SO much. Thank you.”
Last year, Nicki joined Maluma and Myriam Fares for the FIFA World Cup anthem “Tukoh Taka” which made history as the first FIFA World Cup song featuring English, Spanish and Arabic lyrics.
