History of Detroit’s Delicious Better Made Chips: National Potato Chip Day!
Today is National Potato Chip Day! Dis you know that potato chips are the most popular snack food in the United States. Americans consume over 1.5 billion pounds of potato chips each year. And here in Detroit you know we have THE best brand! Better Made Potato Chips!
Alright, let me tell you the story of Better Made Chips in Detroit. It all started back in 1930 when two buddies, Cross Moceri and Pete Cipriano, decided to start a potato chip company. They got their hands on an old potato-slicing machine and started making chips in the kitchen of their Detroit storefront.
At first, the chips weren’t anything special, but they were determined to make something better. They experimented with different types of potatoes and seasonings until they finally hit on a recipe that they thought was perfect. They named their new chips “Better Made” to reflect their commitment to making a superior product.
The business took off, and soon they were delivering chips to stores all over Detroit. They even had a delivery truck that they decorated with a big potato on the side. People loved their chips, and the company grew over the years.
In the 1950s, Better Made Chips really hit their stride. They started using state-of-the-art equipment and modern production methods to make their chips even better. They expanded their product line to include new flavors like barbecue and sour cream and onion, and they started selling their chips in bigger bags.
Better Made Chips became a Detroit institution, and people all over the city were proud to support a local company that made such great snacks. They even had a slogan that summed up their commitment to quality: “Our potatoes make the difference.”
Today, Better Made Chips is still going strong. They’re still family-owned and operated, and they still make their chips right here in Detroit. They’ve expanded their product line to include popcorn and pretzels, but they’re still best known for their delicious potato chips. And if you’re from out-of-town and are ever in Detroit, be sure to grab a bag of Better Made Chips – they’re our local favorite for a reason!
