Frightened person

When you’re talking fears in Michigan, as it turns out, we have some pretty unique ones. I, personally, have always been scared of clowns. I realize that’s a pretty common fear, but it’s not the No. 1 biggest phobia in Michigan.

The crew at BetMichigan.com has put together a list of the most common phobias in Michigan. To conduct the study, BetMichigan.com analyzed web searches “around all things ‘phobias’, to reveal what were the most searched for over the last 12 months.” They added that an estimated 9.1% of Americans currently having some form of phobia.

According to the study, the No. 1 phobia in Michigan is Trypophobia, which is “the fear of clustered patterns of irregular holes.” They add that it’s “a phobia interestingly not categorized as an official phobia around the world.” So weird. Maybe it has something to do with the potholes that we have in Michigan? I don’t know, but that’s very strange. Coming in at No. 2 is Thalassophobia, the fear of oceans, with 56,640 searches. Claustrophobia, which is the fear of closed spaces, is No. 3. Find the full list via BetMichigan.com.
